The Intelligent Mobile Systems Lab (IMSL) at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts develops intelligent algorithms for mobile systems. Our application-oriented research focuses on real-time localization (RTLS) of mobile systems using wireless technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), CSS, UWB, and RFID. The IMSL’s strength lies in the rapid and customer-specific development of embedded systems. For example, we develop distributed systems for localizing autonomous guided vehicles and mobile robots. Our application partners come from a variety of fields, including the automotive industry, automation technology, logistics, and civil safety (rescue robotics).
The Intelligent Mobile Systems Lab is part of the Institute for the Digitalization of Work and Living Environments (IDiAL) at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. This enables us to carry out research and development projects quickly and competently in close cooperation with other research institutions and companies within the region and throughout Germany.

Contract Research
The IMSL team develops innovative solutions for you to address complex challenges in research and development. We develop, implement, and optimize technologies and products, including the production of prototypes and small-batch runs. And we advise you in the early stages of a research collaboration through feasibility studies, market research, and information on funding opportunities.
Collaborative Projects
IMSL researchers work with you on research projects that are fully or partially funded by third-party funding sources. Through our network of connections with other research institutions and companies, we are able to identify additional suitable partners from academia and industry for joint research projects, as needed.
