Smart Service Power – Intelligent Data Aggregation and Utilization for Innovative Features in Age-Appropriate, Technology-Assisted Living in the Neighborhood

Demographic change is leading to a care crisis not only in Germany: there is a shortage of staff, and costs are rising steadily. Smart Service Power aims to develop a solution to this problem and, through intelligent digitization and “smartification,” enable age-appropriate, technology-supported living in the community. Through prevention, community-based care, and interconnected value chains, the project aims to enable people who are ill, in need of care or assistance, people with disabilities, and seniors to remain socially integrated in their own neighborhoods for as long as possible—a goal that aligns with their personal wishes while also reducing care costs and associated social costs for health insurance providers, church-affiliated organizations, and local governments.

For the first time, the project aims to integrate existing functions from the fields of e-health, smart homes, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), emergency call systems, care services, and concierge services, and to connect the data silos. By consolidating various resident data in combination with intelligent analysis and evaluation algorithms, the system no longer simply detects emergency signals but instead identifies and forwards situations of need based on context. Trends, correlations, and changes become visible, enabling a proactive response.

The project aims to develop intelligent algorithms capable of detecting emergencies in the home and identifying residents’ needs. These algorithms will be based on probabilistic models to be developed as part of the project and will utilize both the resident’s vital signs and activity data from the smart home. To this end, commercially available systems and sensors from the fields of vital signs monitoring and smart home technology will be integrated.

Security modules that ensure end-to-end security will be developed. Furthermore, in collaboration with the application partners, a legally compliant data usage concept with flexible and context-based access rights will be developed.

As part of the project, cost-benefit analyses will also be conducted, and based on these, proposals for business models will be presented. Furthermore, a prototype decision-support system will be developed that generates a proposal for the “fair” distribution of cost savings and revenues for collaborative business models.
